Week 3 already? Where does the time go?! For me, this is a special Stampin Up Christmas Card 2020. I challenged myself to make another “Scene Card” and as you know, I profess to ‘suck at scene’ cards! But this one didn’t turn out too bad. I had a vision in mind and bought WAY too many stamp sets to make this card happen, but she with the most stamps wins right?! Tell me I’m right!

I knew the moment I saw the Coming Home Stamp Set (I can’t link new Stampin Up Mini Catalog 2020 products until July 4th! Sorry! I will come back in July and update the links) I wanted to mask an animal in the car. Back in February, I masked one of the Meercats (from the SAB 2020 Set) in the truck from the Ride With Me Stamps. It was so much fun to see that little guy poking his head up in the window! Anyhow, I just knew that this little VW Beetle Car was my new found joy for masking. Then I thought of the giraffe and decided he would look perfect poking his head out the sunroof (imagining there is one of course) of the car!
I cut a piece of vellum to the size I wanted my card front to be on the Stampin Up Christmas Card 2020 (5-3/8 X 4-1/8). This way I could move it around the ‘scene DSP’ in the Trimming the Tree Designer Series Paper. If you use vellum you see through the vellum and decide what area you like best. Once I found the perfect place I used my T-Square Ruler and marked off where I needed to cut. I was very careful NOT to cut any of the houses that were in the path of the blade from my Trimmer. As I wanted to preserve the houses to use on my card or save for later.
Once I had saved the house I wanted I used some adhesive and adhered that to some scrap Whisper White Cardstock so I could give it more stability when I popped it up on my card. I placed it directly over where the red house was. Now I didn’t want to waste this little red house, so I used a craft knife and cut it out. Then, when I placed the blue house down it wasn’t hiding the red house. I could then add some scrap cardstock to the back of the red house. Just like I did on the blue one and place it elsewhere on my card. I think it turned out perfectly.
I also used some scraps from the DSP to create some snowbanks. You see, I cut the top of the house in the bottom left corner of the DSP for the card front. Leaving a hole, or missing area. The house was left on the main part of the DSP to use another time. So by creating some snowbanks I would hide where the roof of the house had been cut out. I also added White Craft ink to the tops of the snowbanks and bottom of the houses. Added some White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it all until it was smooth and melted. I love the pop it gave to look like snow.
A while back I bought a MONSTER roll of Vinyl Ease to transfer vinyl I cut on my Cricut Machine. It’s very effective and much more cost-efficient than Cricut Transfer Paper. I needed some masking paper one day and realized I had none left in my stash. That’s when I started using my Vinyl Ease. The only trouble was it comes on a huge roll with no backing/release paper. So all I did was cut it down to smaller pieces and put it on copy paper. You can also put it on Acetate. Just remember if you place it on Acetate you will need to stamp your image in StazOn. I find copy paper works just fine. Not to mention this roll will last you a very, very, very long time!
I stamped the car and only focused on being fussy and cutting closely at the top of the car where the Giraffe would poke out. Don’t forget to save your Vinyle Ease Masked Car Image! You can place it inside your Stamp Case to use again down the road. I did not bother to cut the window out of the car. Actually, I forgot! haha So I just used my Copic Multiliner to draw in the little bit of the Giraffe I was missing in the window. If you struggle with masking be sure to watch the video.
I used my Stampin’ Blends to color the car and giraffe. For the red, I used Light Poppy Parade and Dark Real Red. I colored in the rest of the car with Light Smoky Slate and Dark Gray Granite. The Giraffe was colored using Light & Dark Pumpkin Pie, Light & Dark Cinnamon Cider, and Light Flirty Flamingo on the cheek. I used a Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker to color in the Santa hat, but you could easily use your Real Red Stampin’ Blends. Once the images was all colored I fuzzy cut everything out. Glued the hat on the Giraffe’s head and added a Mini Pompom to the hat. I just love how it looks!
“I’ll Be Home” was the idea I had in my head when I pictured the Giraffe speeding home for Christmas in his VW Beetle. It didn’t bother me that his head was poking out the sunroof in the middle of winter, because where else would it be? He “IS” after all, a GIRAFFE!! lol This is what I bought the Make A Difference Stamp Set. Did you see this set in my last Unboxing? It’s going to get used a lot in the future! I loved being able to create the perfect sentiment for my Stampin Up Christmas Card 2020.
So now I had the perfect sentiment stamped on a scrap piece of Whisper White. I cut it out with a die from the Tasteful Labels Dies. Fussy cut a mat for the sentiment with Misty Moonlight which was a perfect match for the mountains on the card. I created a little flag end on the sentiment with Snowflake Splendor Ribbon. Then on the inside, (Insert is the same size as the card front) I stamped only the word Christmas from one of the Banner Year sentiments in Real Red. Added the for “For” with the Make A Difference Stamps. Then finally I added the larger tree from the Coming Home Stamp Set. Both of which I stamped in Old Olive.
Assembly went pretty fast once I got to this point. Using liquid glue I adhered the DSP Card front to another piece of Whisper White I had cut to the exact same size (5-3/8 X 4=1/8). Then using the same glue I put the card front on my A2 top folding card of Thick Whisper White. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to give some dimension to the houses and Giraffe. Popped them on my card. To finish everything off I added some tiny stars with the new All the Trimmings Embellishments. They are just too cute. Wink of Stella worked out perfectly here to add some sparkle. The Shimmery Crystal Effects was added to all the windows on the houses and the car.
You may have noticed in the video, I do transfer my Shimmery Crystal Effects to another bottle. I find the Shimmery Crystal Effects very hard to squeeze of its original bottle. The Darice Bottles I found are perfect! They are so easy to squeeze and I even find the tip is more precise. They even come with a little pin to put in the tip to prevent your bottle from clogging. Not to mention the needle will NOT rust and cause your Shimmery Crystal Effects to discolor. Unlike most pins, I think this one is stainless steel. It won’t stick to a magnet. So perhaps that means it’s stainless steel? Either way, I love these bottles! They would be perfect for glue too! I plan on adding some liquid glue to one soon.
